Following his absence from WWE after WrestleMania 39, Shane McMahon has maintained a low profile in the wrestling world. However, recent rumors have sparked speculation about a possible debut in AEW. Now, there seems to be an update on McMahon potentially joining AEW.
While speaking on Grilling JR, Jim Ross’ co-host Conrad Thompson revealed that he received a text from a friend claiming Shane McMahon had reached out to AEW talents about potentially joining the promotion.
“There was a friend of ours. He went out of his way to text me, ‘Hey, that’s not as crazy as you think. I know for sure that Shane McMahon has reached out to wrestlers on the AEW roster to at least hypothetically discuss the idea.”
While speaking on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about Shane McMahon talking to AEW talent about working in AEW. Sapp reported that Shane McMahon was not debuting in AEW, clarifying that McMahon was instead in talks with talent. Tony Khan, according to Dave Meltzer, stated that he had never met or spoken to Shane McMahon. Sapp noted that anyone joining AEW would typically communicate with him directly or through someone connected to the company.
“He’s not. He’s talking to talent. So obviously he knows talent and all that but Tony was very forthright with Dave Meltzer saying, ‘I never met that man. Never talked to him in my life. If somebody is coming into AEW, they are probably going to talk to Tony Khan. Or there is going to be some knowledge of it there. “
Shane McMahon was recently seen at a New York Yankees game, but there’s no indication whatsoever that he will join Tony Khan’s company. At this point, it appears highly unlikely. Nonetheless, only time will tell what Shane McMahon’s next move will be.
