CM Punk’s arrival in AEW was initially greeted with great excitement, marking a potentially triumphant chapter in his illustrious career. However, his time with the company took an unexpected turn, culminating in his release last year. In fact, Jim Ross has expressed a wish that CM Punk was still part of AEW even to this day.

In 2021, CM Punk’s entry into AEW was momentous event, making him a huge name in the promotion. He reached the peak of his AEW career at Double or Nothing 2022 by winning the AEW World Championship. However, his title reign was beset by injuries, including a torn triceps following the controversial Brawl Out incident at AEW All Out 2022.

Despite these hurdles, Punk returned in June 2023 as a key player on AEW Collision. Unfortunately, his stint with AEW came to an abrupt halt due to a confrontation with Jack Perry, which led to his contract being terminated. Following his departure from AEW, CM Punk made a surprising return to WWE at Survivor Series last year.

During a recent episode of Grilling JR, Jim Ross offered his insights on CM Punk’s return to WWE and expressed a sentiment of wishing Punk were still part of AEW. Ross revealed that he often receives text messages from Punk, who checks in on his well-being.

Jim Ross spoke highly of Punk’s contributions to AEW and he wished Punk was still with the company. He expressed disappointment over the inability to retain such a talented individual, attributing Punk’s departure to a mismatch in personalities.

I get text messages from him on a somewhat frequent basis because he’s just checking on me to see how I’m feeling.

I miss CM Punk. I thought he contributed greatly to the AEW roster when he was with us. To be perfectly candid, I wish he still was. How do you not want a talent the level of CM Punk not still with your company? It, personality-wise, just did not work out, and that’s unfortunate.

CM Punk also distanced himself from AEW significantly, making it clear he wants no further association with the company. Despite this, both parties have now moved on from the situation, and that’s what truly matters.
