Drew McIntyre showed a ton of hatred towards CM Punk on Friday Night SmackDown this week, showcasing his pure disdain for The Second City Saint by brutally attacking him. It appears WWE put considerable effort into crafting their segment for SmackDown this week, ensuring it made a significant impact.
On the June 21 edition of SmackDown in Chicago, CM Punk kicked off the show by addressing the fallout from WWE Clash at the Castle. He spoke about the disappointment of losing a crucial World title opportunity in Drew McIntyre’s native Scotland and highlighted his collaboration with Cody Rhodes in thwarting potential attacks from The Bloodline.
Later in the evening, a backstage segment featuring DIY and Grayson Waller was abruptly interrupted by a startling noise. The garage door swung open to reveal CM Punk, visibly battered and lying on the floor. Drew McIntyre, who had recently departed WWE on Monday Night RAW, made an unexpected return to Chicago, seeking vengeance against Punk.
McIntyre forcefully dragged the bloodied Punk to the ringside area and unceremoniously tossed him onto the entrance ramp. General Manager Nick Aldis swiftly intervened with security to restore order, and Punk was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
According to a report by Fightful Select, the CM Punk and Drew McIntyre beat down segment was rehearsed and planned meticulously by WWE as they went the extra mile to ensure everything went perfectly.
However, CM Punk was seen leaving the arena while driving despite the hospital angle. Regardless, it remains to be seen when Punk will be able to make his television return, as he might be gone for a while after McIntyre’s assault.
