CM Punk, sidelined from in-ring action since January due to a triceps injury, made his return on Friday Night SmackDown this week. It didn’t quite turn out as he intended after Drew McIntyre destroyed him on the show but it appears he was seen leaving the arena despite the injury angle on the show.

On the June 21 edition of SmackDown in Chicago, CM Punk started the show by addressing the fallout from WWE Clash at the Castle. He talked about losing a crucial World title opportunity in Drew McIntyre’s native Scotland and mentioned his alliance with Cody Rhodes in fending off potential attacks from The Bloodline.

Later in the evening during a backstage segment involving DIY and Grayson Waller, a sudden noise interrupted them. The garage door swung open to reveal CM Punk battered and lying on the floor. Drew McIntyre, who had recently left WWE on Monday Night RAW, made a surprise return to Chicago seeking retribution against Punk.

McIntyre dragged a bloody Punk to the ringside area and threw him unceremoniously at the entrance. General Manager Nick Aldis quickly intervened with security to restore order, and Punk was subsequently transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

Despite the storyline depicting CM Punk being transported to the hospital after an attack by Drew McIntyre on SmackDown, footage circulating online revealed Punk leaving the Allstate Arena in his car, as he didn’t keep kayfabe alive.

We have also reported on CM Punk’s plans for SummerSlam, which will see him square off against Drew McIntyre. In the meantime, we’ll have to see when Punk will be able to make his television return, as he might be gone for a while after McIntyre’s assault.
