Goldberg’s status as a free agent following the expiration of his WWE contract has sparked lots of speculation among wrestling fans. Goldberg definitely wants a retirement match, but it appears he isn’t sure how his final opponent will be.
The former WWE Universal Champion last competed in 2022, facing off against Roman Reigns at the WWE Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event, where he suffered a defeat. Despite the loss, he emphatically stated that a wrestler does not retire until they leave the world.
Despite his interest in a retirement match, Goldberg admitted during a recent interview with Busted Open Radio that he hasn’t given much thought to who he would like to face in his final bout.
The WWE Hall of Famer mentioned briefly considering Sting due to his recent retirement but decided against it out of respect for Sting’s moment and legacy.
“Man, I’ll be honest with you. I have no idea. I haven’t even thought about it for two seconds, and that’s a fully 100% transparent answer. I have no idea. I was trying to shuffle it to where it was Sting. Over the past couple of years with his retirement, but I didn’t want to take away from Sting and his whole deal. I have no business being anywhere near that because I don’t deserve to be. It’s all about him, and therefore he wasn’t an option because of that.”
Tony Khan also called out Goldberg for his remarks about not wanting to work in AEW. Nevertheless, only time will tell where the WWE Hall of Famer will end up having his retirement match and against which opponent, as the possibilities are truly endless.
