WWE made the decision back in May of this year that they would not be renewing Jerry Lawler’s broadcasting contract. Lawler, a prominent voice from the Attitude Era, mentioned that his tenure with the company had likely come to an end.
Speaking on Going Ringside, Lawler provided an update on his health following a stroke in 2023. He mentioned that he recently underwent a knee replacement surgery on his right knee.
“I’m sort of hobbling around right now, I just had a knee replacement on my right knee. It’s doing good, but it’s a little bit of hobbling here and there,” Lawler explained.
When it was pointed out that he appeared to be doing well, Lawler acknowledged that while he may seem fine in public, living alone at home presented some challenges. However, he noted that things were improving.
“Well, I seem to be doing pretty well. People just see me like this, but at home, I live by myself. It’s a little tough there right now. But it’s seemed to get better,” Lawler said.
Addressing his WWE contract situation, Lawler seemingly confirmed Ringside News’ exclusive report that his commentating contract had ended due to health issues, but he remained under contract with the company.
“The commentating contract [ended]. I had two strokes about seven months ago, and so they started…that’s not good for commentary. But I’m still under contract with them,” Lawler stated.
Lawler mentioned that he isn’t watching much wrestling currently. Despite this, he is beginning to travel more and make appearances following his knee replacement.
As fans continue to show their support, Jerry Lawler’s resilience and dedication to recovery remain evident. His contributions to wrestling are fondly remembered, and his ongoing connection with WWE keeps him an enduring figure in the industry.
