AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is set to take place on June 30th and there is a lot of excitement and anticipation for the pay-per-view. Sadly, it appears an NJPW star suffered a serious injury ahead of the show.

At the June 12th taping of AEW Rampage, Shota Umino faced Rocky Romero in his singles debut for AEW, following his earlier appearance in the Casino Gauntlet on the May 29 episode of Dynamite.

Unfortunately, Umino was scheduled to compete at the New Japan Soul event but was withdrawn due to injuries. He took to Twitter to announce that he had suffered a fractured hip along with a strained disc in his lower back. Despite these setbacks, Umino remains optimistic about his recovery timeline, aiming to be fit for the G1 Climax 34, which begins on July 20th.

”I had a hip fracture and a strained disc 😢 It’s the L45 disc. I also had an MRI done. I’ll somehow get back to Tokyo tomorrow. I will definitely be back by G1. I’m going to take a break for a while. Sorry.”

It is certainly a shame that Shota Umino will not be competing at Forbidden Door, as his inclusion at the pay-per-view would have been a welcome one. Regardless, we’ll pray for his speedy recovery.
