The NXT North American Championship scene has been exciting in recent months, especially with Oba Femi holding the title. At NXT Battleground 2024, a thrilling triple-threat match took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, where the champion defended his title against Wes Lee and Joe Coffey.
The match showcased an incredible back-and-forth between three of NXT’s most talented stars, each bringing a unique style to the ring. Coffey’s Gallus teammates repeatedly interfered in the match’s closing moments, only to be thwarted by Wes Lee’s dive outside the ring.
This distraction allowed Oba Femi to capitalize, delivering a pop-up powerbomb to both competitors, securing the win, and retaining his championship by delivering one of the most spectacular bouts on the card.
However, Dave Meltzer bestowed his popular match ratings on the blockbuster showdown, giving it 3.25 star ratings to the match. This triggered Joe Coffey, who took to his X to berate his ratings, stating that he had no idea of professional wrestling matches and their calibre.
“As cuz he doesn’t have a f**kin clue about what goes in professional wrestling. He’s never laced up a pair, do you know people’s opinion out of respect are the people when I go through the curtain and they tell me if its good or bad. That’s who I respect.”
While Coffey failed to slither the title away from Oba Femi despite the interference of his cohorts, it is yet to be seen if he decided to go after the NXT North American Title one more time.
