At WrestleMania 40, The Rock made a highly anticipated return to the ring, teaming up with Roman Reigns in his first advertised match in 11 years. Their opponents were Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, and the match was an intense affair lasting nearly 45 minutes. Despite the tough competition, The Rock and Roman Reigns emerged victorious, with The Rock pinning Cody Rhodes for the win. The Rock has now claimed he is on track to creating the biggest match ever at WrestleMania 41.

Speaking with Mike Coppinger of ESPN, The Rock reflected on his return to the ring for his first proper match in 11 years, drawing inspiration from a scene in the first “Rocky” film.

The Rock described feeling a connection to the quote “I just want to go the distance,” emphasizing the pressure and expectations leading up to WrestleMania, where he faced Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins alongside Roman Reigns in a match that nearly lasted an hour. The Rock expressed satisfaction with how the match unfolded, considering it worked out “phenomenally well” despite never having wrestled Rollins or Rhodes before.

“I felt like that was a representation and a reflection of what I was feeling because as you know, in pro wrestling, there is no take two, you get one night, one shot and one opportunity. Leading up into WrestleMania, the training camp, the pressure, the expectation, the deliverable, everything, that quote kept coming back to my mind, which was, ‘I just want to go the distance’ and going the distance meant I knew that we had almost an hour planned, which as you know, is a long f—ing time. I also had something to prove to myself. … It’s always you vs. you. So that’s something to prove to myself that I can do it and put in the work and put in the training camp and rely on my dance partners in the ring in Cody and Seth and Roman as we all relied on each other. But yeah, I just want to go the distance.”

Looking forward, he teased ambitious plans for WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, hinting at creating the biggest WrestleMania and the biggest match of all time.

We’re on the 1-yard line to create the biggest WrestleMania of all time and the biggest match of all time at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. I’ll just leave it at that, Final Boss style.”

The Rock is expected to wrestle another match in 2024 before WrestleMania 41 as well. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see what WWE will have planned for The Great One at WrestleMania 41.
