AJ Styles has carved out a legendary career in the world of professional wrestling and he made full use of that to trick Cody Rhodes last month on Friday Night SmackDown and he has now revealed the reason for faking his retirement.

On the May 31st edition of Friday Night SmackDown, AJ Styles delivered a poignant segment reflecting on his career and his pursuit of the Undisputed WWE Championship. He shared his apprehensions about starting anew, considering his son’s upcoming graduation and the responsibilities of fatherhood.

During the segment, Styles called out the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, to the ring. Despite expressing gratitude for their previous encounter at WWE Backlash France, the night ended with a shocking twist. Styles unexpectedly attacked Rhodes, culminating in a brutal Styles Clash from the steel steps to the mat.

While speaking during the Kickoff show for Clash at The Castle, AJ Styles revealed why he faked his retirement, revealing that Nick Aldis was not going to give him the opportunity for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

”I did it cause Nick Aldis was not going to give me the opportunity I wanted. I earned it when I took Cody Rhodes’ head off, I knew exactly what I was doing because he was playing right into my game and giving me what I wanted.”

AJ Styles is set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Clash at The Castle Premium Live Event on June 15th, so we’ll have to see how that will turn out for The Phenomenal One.
