Shawn Michaels would go down in history as one of the most exceptional in-ring performers of all time in the wrestling industry. His amazing in-ring acumen and captivating persona made him one of the biggest WWE superstars of all time. However, he did have some interesting choices from the current roster to wrestle if he was younger today.
The Heartbreak Kid wrestled for nearly 25 years inside the squared circle. He wrestled his final match as a full-time performer at WrestleMania 26, losing a ‘Career vs Streak’ match against The Undertaker.
However, he did make a one-off return from retirement, teaming alongside his best friend, Triple H, to battle The Undertaker and Kane at the 2018 WWE Crown Jewel event. In a recent interview with The Schmo, Michaels stated that he would have liked to share the ring with top stars on the roster today, like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins and Logan Paul, if he was 20 years younger and still competing as an active in-ring competitor.
“I look at guys that I see now, a guy like Seth Rollins, I think I could get in there with and do fantastic stuff. Cody is another one. Logan Paul. He is somebody that is incredibly talented. There are a number of guys that I look at and I think to myself, ‘If you were 20 years younger, wouldn’t it be really cool.’ I’m very happy with what I’m doing. The future of WWE is in great hands where it’s going. I like my place behind the scenes now. We’re part of a generation that never says goodbye, but I have no problem saying goodbye and looking towards the future.”
Nowadays, Shawn Michaels has been at the helm of WWE NXT as the head booker and Senior Vice President, taking the developmental brand to new heights, most recently seen at NXT Battleground while also engaging in some fun antics with popular rapper Sexyy Red to build hype for the event.
Although his days as an in-ring performer are behind him, he will always be remembered as one of the greatest WWE superstars to grace the squared circle.
