Sabu is a former ECW World Champion and ECW Tag Team Champion, being an icon of hardcore wrestling and he has faced many top stars during his career. However, he never got to square off against Finn Balor and has now revealed the unfortunate reason why he never faced Balor.
Sabu sacrificed his body for pro wrestling throughout his entire career and it doesn’t help that Sabu had a medical emergency and had to be rushed to the hospital last year. In addition to that, Sabu previously stated that he can’t stand up straight anymore due to broken back.
During a recent appearance on the Casual Conversations with The Classic podcast, Sabu revealed that he had wanted to face Finn Balor before Balor debuted in WWE. The two had even discussed the possibility of a one-on-one match, but it never materialized due to Sabu sustaining an injury.
“I like Finn Balor. I’ve seen him wrestle in Ireland, no… Scotland a couple of times, not too long before he became Finn Balor. I always wanted to wrestle him, then he became Finn Balor. I really loved him. So I said, ‘Hey, man someday, let’s get together.’ He said, ‘Of course.’ But then it never happened because I got hurt.”
Sabu also noted that GCW wants him to have his final match in the promotion. Nevertheless, it is truly a shame that Sabu and Finn Balor never squared off against each other, as fans would love loved that match.
