ECW Legend Sabu has been a true icon and a pioneer of Hardcore wrestling and has been contemplating one last match in recent memory. Moreover, the indie wrestling promotion, GCW have extended an offer to Sabu after learning about his retirement plans.
In a recent interview on Conversations with The Wrestling Classic, Sabu shared his thoughts and aspirations for his final bout. He revealed that GCW has expressed interest in hosting his retirement match in January 2025. However, he is uncertain if he will be in shape by then and would prefer a summer timeline for his final performance.
“My goal is to work out until the last match and I know the last match isn’t tomorrow. GCW wants me to do my last match with them in January. I said, ‘I don’t know if I’ll be ready.’ I don’t want my last match in January. I want it in July and I want it in Las Vegas.”
Additionally, the former ECW World Champion mentioned his interest in potentially having his final match with Tony Khan’s AEW, citing their large platform and substantial paychecks.
“I’m gonna have a final match eventually, I’m not in shape for it yet. I’m hurting too much, but I’m hoping my pain eases up. I’m sure it will. I’d like to maybe do my final match with [AEW] because they have a big platform and a big paycheck.”
Sabu previously made an appearance at AEW Double or Nothing 2023, serving as a special enforcer in the match between top stars, Adam Cole and Chris Jericho. His storied career and desire for one final match continue to capture the attention, so it will be interesting to see which promotion gets the honor to host his final dance.
Do you think GCW would host Sabu’s retirement match? Or will it take place in AEW as the ECW Legend has desired? Sound off in the comments!
