Carmella and R-Truth’s partnership in WWE was a highlight for many fans, combining humor and creativity in their quest for the WWE 24/7 Championship. This dynamic duo brought a fresh and entertaining element to the show, but the WWE Draft eventually split up them up. Recently, Carmella opened up about her time being paired with R-Truth on WWE television.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Carmella shared her admiration for R-Truth, describing him as a treasure and a joy to work with. She fondly recalled their countless shenanigans, whether on or off camera, and their ability to ad-lib and bring their unique chemistry to life. The duo’s antics, costumes, and disguises kept fans eagerly anticipating what they would do next, making their segments a highlight of the show.
“I just loved being paired with R-Truth. He is such a treasure and he’s such a good person and so fun to be around. It was just full-on shenanigans all the time, whether the cameras were rolling or they weren’t. We always had fun ideas, we would ad-lib things that weren’t in the script and it was just fun to play off each other in that aspect,” she said. “You just never knew what to expect and people were looking forward to seeing what we were going to do. We were in costumes and disguises and just getting into the most ridiculous situations. I just love being that entertainment part of the show. I had already, at that point, been Women’s Champion. I showed what I can do in the ring. Let me show what I can do with my character and be fun and be silly and have comedic timing and play off somebody.
Carmella then moved on to discuss the importance of showing range as a WWE character. Having already proven her in-ring skills as a champion, she was thrilled to explore the entertainment aspect of wrestling. The chance to be silly, showcase her comedic timing, and play off R-Truth was a significant and important chapter in her career.
“I think to be able to have that range is so important,” she continued. “Not everyone can do that and I’m so grateful that I was afforded the opportunity to show that side of my character, especially alongside R-Truth.”
Although Carmella has not returned to the ring since giving birth to her son, she expressed hope to come back soon. However, she is currently dealing with post-pregnancy injuries, specifically foot drop caused by herniated discs in her back. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more!
