AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is set to take place on June 30th and there is a lot of excitement and anticipation for the pay-per-view. Interestingly enough, an NJPW star has confirmed he isn’t booked for the show after issuing a challenge.
Jeff Cobb retained his NJPW World Television Championship in a hard-fought battle against Tomohiro Ishii at NJPW Dominion. Following his victory, Cobb issued an open challenge, hinting at a potential appearance at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
However, Cobb later clarified on social media that his challenge wasn’t intended to coerce anyone into arranging a match for the event. He emphasized that he currently doesn’t have a scheduled bout for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and expressed a willingness to follow the tradition of “our sister company,” indicating a readiness to grant opportunities to unexpected challengers. Cobb stated that, as of his announcement, no contender had stepped forward to accept the challenge.
”Let me be VERY clear. I currently do not have a match at Forbidden Door, nor is this a way to pressure anyone into making a match. I am willing to go the route of our sister company and just let any non deserving person a shot at this championship. As of now, no one has stepped up. If I’m there, I’m going to fight, if not, I’ll happily enjoy a day at the beach, blast my new DeBarge album with a nice good ol fashioned bbq…..@JRsBBQ any good tips?”
Jeff Cobb made sure to tag Jim Ross and ask him for advice. The WWE Hall of Famer responded to Jeff Cobb on Twitter, making it clear that both parties will be able to figure something out.
”I’ll bet we can figure something out, Big FELLA! 🤠”
Jeff Cobb last made an appearance on the May 15th edition of AEW Dynamite, where he teamed up with Kyle Fletcher and faced off against Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. It remains to be seen who will end up becoming Jeff Cobb’s opponent at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
