WWE undoubtedly features a roster brimming with immensely talented Superstars. However, it’s also true that several talents have departed WWE for various reasons. One notable example is Matt Cardona, who was released by WWE and has since become a prominent figure in the independent wrestling scene. Despite his success outside WWE, Cardona recently admitted that he desires to return to the company.

During his time in WWE, Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder, encountered obstacles in ascending to the upper echelons of the company. Despite his fan support, he found it challenging to break through and fulfill his potential as a WWE star. Regrettably, Cardona was released by WWE in 2020. However, he has since found renewed success on the independent circuit, earning the nickname “Indy God” for his achievements in various independent wrestling promotions.

While speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling, Matt Cardona admitted that squaring off against Adam Copeland on AEW Collision made him want to wrestle in sold-out arenas. He then admitted he wants to return to WWE or even AEW, but added that they need to have something planned for him.

“Now I’d be lying of I said that I love wrestling at high school gyms and that I don’t miss wrestling at Madison Square Garden. Come on! You know, couple of months ago, I wrestled Adam Copeland, Edge, my literal dream match on AEW. To just walk out in a full arena, of course I miss that, of course. But right now, I’m doing the best I possibly can, I’m taking the things I can control and doing the best I possibly can at them. Of course, I want to be back in WWE or AEW but only if it’s right. I don’t want to be back just to be back. I don’t want to just be a guy on the roster. Been there, done that.

If right now my phone rings from Tony Khan and Triple h, I’m gonna pick up and have a convo, but I’m not going to get on my hands and knees begging for a job.’

Nevertheless, the future status of Matt Cardona remains uncertain as he is clearly weighing his options when it comes to joining WWE or AEW. Only time will tell if he ends up going back to either company.
