Roxanne Perez has been the NXT Women’s Champion for quite a while now and since joining NXT a couple of years ago, she has been destined for greatness. It’s been a long road for the young WWE Superstar and it appears CM Punk offered her some crucial advice when it came to social media.
While speaking to Adrian Hernandez, Roxanne Perez shared a memorable encounter with CM Punk, recalling one of the first times he watched her perform live. She had requested feedback from him on her match, to which he had agreed.
Perez vividly remembered the moment when she was seated beside him, scrolling through Twitter after a match had concluded. CM Punk noticed her distraction and promptly intervened, urging her to stop paying attention to online comments.
“I do remember, uh, one of the first times that CM Punk ever got to watch me live. I had asked him if he could give me some feedback for my match, and he said he would in a second.” She continued, “He was sitting right next to me, watching another match, and as soon as it finished, I’m like I’m scrolling on Twitter, and he, like, leans back and he sees what I’m doing on my phone, and he goes, ‘Stop looking at that, stop looking at that. It doesn’t matter what they say, it doesn’t matter if they love you, it doesn’t matter if they hate you. You keep on going out there and doing what you do and proving to everyone why you are in this, you are in the spot that you are in.'”
For Perez, Punk’s advice was a revelation, especially coming from a legitimate figure in the wrestling industry like him. Despite his stature, Punk showed a disregard for external opinions, a trait that resonated deeply with Perez. She acknowledged the influence of social media among wrestlers, particularly for someone of her age.
“And that literally was just like very eye-opening, especially coming from someone like him that has done so much in the wrestling business and clearly he doesn’t give a damn about what anybody thinks about him. At 22 years old, it’s, it’s obviously a little hard to, to not… like kind of social media is everything for us, right? You know, yeah, yeah. But you know, haters gonna hate.”
Roxanne Perez is set to defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Jordynne Grace at the NXT Battleground Premium Live Event on June 9th, so there is no doubt CM Punk will be rooting for Perez in the match no matter what.
