Mark Henry’s debut at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view in 2021 was a highly anticipated moment. However, in the three years since, some have expressed the view that he didn’t accomplish as much within the company as anticipated, leading to his departure. He appeared at MLW Battle Riot VI and revealed how it came together.

Reports last month indicated that Henry’s contract with AEW was due to expire last month and many wondered if he was going to leave AEW. That’s exactly what happened, as Henry confirmed he would not be re-signing with the company.

Mark Henry also made a shocking appearance at MLW’s Battle Riot VI event. Mark Henry recently discussed his unexpected appearance at MLW Battle Riot VI during an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful. Henry explained that his participation stemmed from long-standing friendships with MLW’s Court Bauer and Alex Greenfield. He emphasized the depth of these relationships, noting that true friendship doesn’t require daily communication but is instead built on mutual respect and admiration.

Henry highlighted that his decision to appear at MLW was driven by these personal connections. He expressed that when close friends in the wrestling industry reach out to him, even at the last minute, he is willing to support them and participate in their events.

“I’ve been friends with Court [Bauer] and Alex Greenfield forever, and sometimes, you have relationships with people,” Henry said. “It’s not the same as being friends with people. I know those guys. They were friends of mine, and when you’re a friend of somebody, you don’t have to talk to them every day to still have that respect and admiration for them, and that’s what it is, especially Alex, man. We just get each other, and the people that I have those relationships with in wrestling, if they call me and say, even if it’s last-minute, and they call me and say, ‘Hey, would you be willing to do this?’ ‘Alright, well, let’s do it. I just want to come see you.’

So that’s what it ended up being. Being able to see the product, I’ve watched it online, but to be able to see the product in person and meet a lot of the talent, which a lot of them I already knew, and you start to see some of your friends’ kids be in the business, it just don’t get better than that, and I had that over at MLW.”

WWE was also urged to hire Mark Henry following his AEW release. We’ll have to wait and see where Mark Henry ends up next after he makes more appearances in Major League Wrestling.
