WWE Considered Absent Star As Potential Opponent for Roxanne Perez at 2024 NXT Battleground

Roxanne Perez has firmly established herself as one of the most formidable and ruthless champions in recent memory. Her relentless aggression and ruthless tactics have dominated the NXT landscape, cementing her reign as the undisputed NXT Women’s Champion. With that said, it appears WWE considered an absent WWE star for Perez’s opponent.

During the May 28th edition of NXT, TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace made her surprise appearance and was announced as the next challenger for Roxanne Perez’s NXT Women’s Title at the upcoming event NXT Battleground on June 9th.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were indications that Jordynne Grace and Raquel Rodriguez were potential opponents for Roxanne Perez at Battleground. However, it seems that by the time Battleground came around, the deal with Grace had already fallen through.

Interestingly, many within TNA were unaware of the deal that TNA management had made with WWE. Similarly, most in NXT were also unaware, although there were some who knew about the potential deal, as indicated off the record a week prior when Grace was listed as one of the possible opponents.

”We’d been told that Grace and Raquel Rodriguez were possibilities to face Roxanne Perez at Battleground but even by then the deal with Grace had apparently been cut. Most in TNA had no idea of the deal TNA management cut with WWE. Most in NXT didn’t know, but there were more than is being let on that did know since we were told off the record a week ahead Grace was one of the names listed as possible.”

Rodriguez previously revealed that she had been diagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and that Raquel Rodriguez has been removed from the active WWE roster list. It remains to be seen when Rodriguez will return to WWE television, but it might not be for a while.
