The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes reached the pinnacle of sports and entertainment when he did the unthinkable at WrestleMania 40. On that night, he emerged victorious over the former dominant champion, Roman Reigns, to win the Undisputed WWE Championship in historic fashion.
Since that night, Cody Rhodes has embarked on a journey to become a fighting champion and possibly aiming to surpass the credibility of the title reign of Roman Reigns that lasted for an impressive 1,316 days.
In a recent interview with WHAS11, The Prodigal Son highlighted the key differences in his reign compared to Roman Reigns. Rhodes stated while Reigns was absent from multiple shows in different cities, Cody Rhodes has been bringing the title to every show.
He also believed that ever since his first attempt to win the title at WrestleMania 39 failed, he felt like a champion, but without the championship, vowing to bring the title to every audience he performed before actually winning it at WrestleMania 40.
“I think one of the things I really love is the fact that I am able to go city to city. Whereas the WWE Champion prior to myself, the man I defeated, Roman Reigns, the Tribal Chief, was not on every city. He wasn’t making it to every show. “And I’ve had the opportunity to be able to bring it – and for a year I felt like I was the champion without the belt. I was everywhere promising them, ‘Hey, I’m gonna bring you the WWE Championship’. It feels good when you can fulfill your promise and go back to these places and bring this (title).”
On the other hand, given recent events, it seems WWE has plans to continue the rivalry between Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles after last week’s SmackDown.
So, as many have speculated in recent memory, we will have to wait for the official announcement of a rumored rematch between The American Nightmare and The Phenomenal One.
