WWE has undergone significant transformations over the years, most notably with the absence of Vince McMahon following allegations made against him by Janel Grant. McMahon’s name is conspicuously absent from television broadcasts and WWE’s digital platforms. Furthermore, reports indicate that McMahon is prohibited from entering the new WWE Headquarters.
In a recent installment of “The Insiders” podcast, Conrad Thompson conversed with Tom Carlucci, a veteran of Vince McMahon’s employ since 1987. Carlucci held various roles within WWE over the decades and was renowned as one of McMahon’s most steadfast associates. While Carlucci himself was let go during the pandemic, his familial ties to WWE persist, with his wife still employed by the company and his son engaged in freelance work for NXT.
Reflecting on his departure, Carlucci recounted receiving inquiries from tabloids seeking scandalous revelations about McMahon. Firm in his loyalty, Carlucci adamantly refused to speak ill of his former employer. He also criticized those who, in his view, had betrayed McMahon. Carlucci disclosed that the concept behind the new WWE Headquarters was McMahon’s brainchild, driven by his desire to consolidate all operations under one roof. Notably, Carlucci remarked that the gym within the headquarters was tailored to McMahon’s preferences, yet he is now barred from utilizing it.
“I will never ever badmouth [Vince]. Now, what’s going on with Vince now, it’s a totally different story. There’s three sides to every story in my book. So, stuff is gonna come out and you’ll see it. I don’t know anything about it but it is what it is as we all know.”
Commenting on McMahon’s estrangement from the company he built, Carlucci revealed that Vince McMahon can’t even walk into WWE Headquarters.
“He can’t even walk in the building…that’s crazy that you drive by that building [and] you got that big championship belt. He always wanted us from day one…because we were in two different buildings. We had the corporate off exit 9 and then we were right down the street from the corporate office. Our big production studio. He always wanted us under one roof. That was his dream to have us under one roof. The dream came and he’s not even a part of it anymore.”
Describing his wife’s experiences at the new headquarters, Carlucci likened it to a museum, with amenities like a Starbucks, the SmackDown cafe, and the off-limits gym intended for McMahon’s use.
“The gym was created for Vince. He designed the gym with his trainer Mike, who I know really well. He can’t even go in that gym anymore. He can’t step foot anywhere. Every meeting that goes on over there — you’ll never see Vince here again, from the TKO people. It is crazy when you think about it that he’s the legacy.”
Despite vehemently denying all allegations, McMahon remains under investigation by the Justice Department, prompting Grant to temporarily suspend her lawsuit.
