Christian Cage has demonstrated his exceptional skills as a heel over the past year in AEW, reinforcing his reputation as one of the best in professional wrestling. However, he is also well-remembered for his time in WWE. Recently, Cage revealed what ultimately motivated him to make the move to AEW.

While speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, Christian Cage delved into his decision to sign with AEW. He revealed that while he had discussions with WWE, they didn’t progress beyond talks about scheduling and preferences.

However, during this period, his friend Jon Moxley was surprised to learn that Cage wasn’t tied to any promotion. Moxley encouraged Cage to reach out to Tony Khan, suggesting that he had the leverage to choose where to end his career.

Following Moxley’s advice, Cage had a pivotal three-hour conversation with Tony Khan. During this discussion, Cage became convinced that AEW was the perfect fit for him.

“It was that day, it was a Wednesday, they were doing TV that day. When their show was on I got a text from Tony saying ‘Hey, how are you?’ I said ‘I’m great, how are you?’ He said ‘Should we talk?’ I said ‘I think we should.’ So he called me the next day and we talked on the phone for almost 3 hours. Halfway through that call, I knew that AEW was the place for me. So that’s basically how it all came to fruition was through that one phone call and then we talked one other time later in the week and that was it.”

Christian Cage has also revealed the length of his current AEW contract. Christian Cage was unable to defeat Swerve Strickland at AEW Double or Nothing last month. Therefore, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for the former TNT Champion.
