The May 28th edition of WWE NXT has quickly become one of the standout episodes of the year. One of the biggest surprises of the night was the debut of Ethan Page, formerly of AEW, who made a shocking entrance by taking out Trick Williams. However, what truly grabbed fans’ attention was the near mention of AEW during the broadcast.

Following Ethan Page’s removal from the AEW roster page, there was a lot of speculation about his future with the company. This speculation ended with Page’s dramatic debut on NXT.

During his appearance, commentator Vic Joseph nearly mentioned AEW, beginning to say, “Isn’t he from A-E…” before being cut off by Booker T as Ethan Page started his promo. This near-reference to AEW was a talking point among fans.

According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select’s Backstage podcast, the near mention of AEW was entirely scripted. “The near mention of AEW was completely scripted,” Sapp confirmed, indicating that WWE planned this cheeky nod to generate buzz.
