Will Ospreay has accomplished a lot in his career and is currently the AEW International Champion. Following the June 1st episode of AEW Collision, Ospreay vowed to become a double champion.
During the May 29th edition of AEW Dynamite, Will Ospreay won the Casino Gauntlet match and earned the right to challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door on June 30th.
During AEW Collision on June 1st, Ospreay successfully defended his International Championship for the first time in a competitive match against Kyle O’Reilly. Following the bout, Billy GOAT showered praise on O’Reilly in an AEW exclusive, expressing his admiration for the wrestler and his intentions to pursue a double championship at the upcoming pay-per-view.
“Proven track record, my friend. Every single place I’ve ever gone to and everywhere I’ve ever gone, I’ve challenged for the biggest belts, and I’ve won every single time. Kyle O’Reilly? My God what a professional wrestler. I remember in 2016, a young, immature William needed a friend’s shoulder and he was there. He took me to a British pub in Japan and I’ve always held Kyle to the highest standards of highest respect.
“While I defend this beautiful International Championship, and bring more prestige and add more legacy to it, I am after the World Championship as well. There is nothing in the rulebook saying that I can’t defend this championship and go for the World Championship as well. Two-Belts Billy, get the shirt ready, boys.”
We’ll have to wait and see if The Aerial Assassin emerges victorious against Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door. Alternatively, there’s speculation he might intentionally lose, setting the stage for Adam Page to take on Strickland at All In instead.
