Tony Khan fell victim to an attack by The Elite, resulting in him wearing a neck brace during the NFL Draft and in subsequent public appearances. He has now admitted to being overwhelmed while running AEW during NFL Draft week.
Tony Khan wore a neck brace and maintained kayfabe when asked about his condition following the storyline attack by The Elite on AEW Dynamite. Jim Ross also gave Khan props for maintaining kayfabe.
Tony Khan recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show, where he delved into various aspects of AEW’s dynamics. During the conversation, Khan likened wearing the neck brace to “Our Andy Kaufman moment,” referencing a pivotal moment akin to the legendary comedian’s iconic stunts. He elaborated on Perry’s journey, highlighting how Perry re-established himself during his stint with New Japan Pro Wrestling, only to surprise Khan with a sudden punch to the stomach, followed by an attack orchestrated by Matt and Nick Jackson.
Khan also shed light on the hectic nature of his schedule, revealing how NFL Films documented his experiences while donning the neck brace. Describing a whirlwind scenario reminiscent of a sitcom plotline, he compared it to an episode of “Boy Meets World” where the protagonist juggles a wrestling show and romantic pursuits. Khan detailed the frenetic energy of his day.
This involved managing undrafted free agency alongside hosting AEW Collision, a live event following the NBA Playoffs. Despite unexpected twists like starting the show earlier due to a basketball blowout, Khan navigated through the chaos, with NFL Films capturing every moment.
“NFL Films was following me around in the neckbrace while I ran back and forth like a speed dating episode. Like the Boy Meets World episode where Corey is both with the wrestling show and trying to date Topanga. It was like that. I was doing the undrafted free agency and going back and forth with AEW Collision, which was live after the NBA Playoffs. It was one of those crazy things. Of course, they asked us to go on early because the Celtics-Heat game was a blowout and they asked us to start 10 minutes early. That was of all the days, Draft Saturday while I’m doing undrafted free agency. I had to run back over to Daily’s Place and start the show. It was something. NFL Films shot the whole thing.”
Tony Khan also addressed the possibility of making AEW Dynamite three hours long. Nevertheless, Khan is always busy with a lot of work and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
