Ricky Starks has been a notable presence in AEW since 2020, but fans have observed his absence from television since late March. Meanwhile, it seems that both Starks and Big Bill wanted to part ways from their tag team.
In August 2023, Ricky Starks and Big Bill formed an alliance despite Starks being “suspended,” as he obtained his manager’s license. Their collaboration led to them winning the AEW Tag Team Championships on the October 7 episode of AEW Collision.
Their title reign lasted for 123 days until they were dethroned by Sting and Darby Allin on the February 7 episode of AEW Collision. Following their loss, they were eliminated from the AEW Tag Team Title tournament.
During a Q&A session on Fightful Select’s podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about Ricky Starks’ AEW return status. He noted that he is sure Starks will return to AEW again and added that both Starks and Big Bill wanted to move on from their tag team after they lost the tag titles.
“I’m sure we’ll see Ricky in AEW again. I know that both of these men were ready to move on from this team as soon as they lost the tag titles. I don’t even know, I don’t wanna say they did or didn’t want to do the tag tournament as well, but I know that both guys are ready to move on. Nothing against one another that I’ve heard, it’s just I don’t think that either one really wanted to do that.”
We have also reported on the abandoned plans for Ricky Starks and Big Bill’s tag team. Starks has now been seen since the March 30 episode of AEW Collision, so we’ll have to see when he will finally return to AEW television.
