Swerve Strickland’s ascent in AEW has been nothing short of remarkable, showcasing his exceptional in-ring prowess and undeniable charisma. As the reigning AEW World Champion, he’s poised for a monumental clash against Will Ospreay next month. However, recent reports suggest that there may have been differing expectations for this highly anticipated match.
On the May 29th edition of AEW Dynamite, Will Ospreay emerged victorious in the Casino Gauntlet match, earning the coveted opportunity to challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door on June 30th.
According to Dave Meltzer’s report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were backstage rumblings in AEW indicating that many had envisioned the showdown between Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland as the main event for All In this year.

However, during a Q&A session on Fightful Select’s podcast, Sean Ross Sapp offered clarification on Meltzer’s report. Sapp stated that he hadn’t heard any indication that Swerve Strickland would be defending the title at All In, or if it would involve someone entirely different.
“Not Swerve, from what I understand. I don’t know what it is. I haven’t heard that it’s Swerve. Now whether that means it’s against somebody else defending the title, or somebody completely different, that I don’t know. I heard it wasn’t Swerve.”
As the anticipation builds for the clash between Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door, the possibilities for AEW All In’s main event seem boundless.
