Ricky Starks has played a significant role in AEW since 2020, but fans have noticed his absence from television since late March. Meanwhile, plans involving him and Big Bill have surfaced, indicating potential storylines that didn’t come to fruition.
In August 2023, Ricky Starks and Big Bill formed an alliance despite Starks being “suspended,” as he obtained his manager’s license. Their collaboration led to them clinching the AEW Tag Team Championships on the October 7 episode of AEW Collision.
Their title reign lasted for 123 days until they were dethroned by Sting and Darby Allin on the February 7 episode of AEW Collision. Following their loss, they were ousted from the AEW Tag Team Title tournament. Subsequently, Big Bill aligned himself with Chris Jericho as part of The Learning Tree faction.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that nixed plans would have seen Big Bill betray Ricky Starks, thereby turning Starks into a babyface.
”Scrapped plans in AEW saw Big Bill turn on Ricky Starks which would turn Starks babyface.”
Starks has now been seen since the March 30 episode of AEW Collision, and he has been quite vocal about his frustration regarding his lack of plans. Nonetheless, only time will tell when The Absolute One will make his return to AEW television.
