WWE is moving fast-paced ahead in a new era led by WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque that dawned at WrestleMania 40. Before that, the administration had former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon at the forefront who had a habit of last-minute changes on various shows.

Former WWE broadcaster Matt Camp discussed the challenges of taping weekend specials of The Bump to preview or supplement monthly premium live events in recent video on his YouTube channel. Matt Camp revealed that they often had to deal with Vince McMahon’s last-minute changes, which required altering the pre-taped editions of The Bump.

He shared that they would tape the pay-per-view episodes on Fridays, with drafts or preliminary information about SmackDown, but these episodes wouldn’t air until Sunday. They had to hope that McMahon wouldn’t change his mind based on the initial plans for SmackDown, as they were often not fully informed of the final decisions.

“When we had the pay-per-view episodes that aired before the show, we would tape those on Friday with, maybe, a draft or two of SmackDown, and they wouldn’t air until Sunday. We would have to hope that Vince [Vince McMahon] didn’t change his mind based on what we knew was supposed to happen on SmackDown, because they didn’t key us in a lot, and what I had to do, and it happened more than a few times.”

Matt further explained that once SmackDown ended on Friday nights, they often found themselves needing to remove or alter content due to changes in plans. He described using a makeshift voice-over booth to record new audio segments, which would then be covered with B-roll footage. This highlighted the hard work and adaptability of their team to keep up with Vince McMahon’s decisions.

“As soon as SmackDown ended on Friday night, ‘Well, we said this, this, and this. That has to get taken out.’ I had a makeshift VO [voice over] booth and I would sit in the booth and re-VO stuff we said on the show, and they would cover it with B-roll. That’s how hard our team had to work to put this together because Vince would change his mind.”

Vince McMahon may be gone from WWE but continues to remain in the headlines with his ongoing sex-trafficking lawsuit involving WWE personnel Janel Grant. However, the case has been put on hold after the filing of notice of appearance.

While the last-minute changes have seemingly ended in WWE under Triple H’s leadership, we will have to wait and see if that would happen if a situation arises in the future.
