Adam Cole’s ankle injury during AEW Grand Slam, resulting in fractures in three different places, has significantly disrupted his wrestling plans. Despite undergoing surgery last year, his in-ring return status remains uncertain. In fact, there were huge title plans for Adam Cole as well, but they were unfortunately nixed.
Kevin Owens was the first to break the news of Adam Cole’s surgery, which was later confirmed. Despite several months passing since the injury there’s still no guarantee he will return to the squared circle anytime soon.
According to Fightful Select, there were plans for Cole and MJF to wrestle each other in late 2023, with the reveal of the Devil evidently planned to take place earlier than it did. Cole had even been considered for a possible title victory over MJF, but that did not materialize due to his injury. The two did face off in the main event of AEW All In inside Wembley Stadium, where MJF retained in their match.
”There were plans for MJF and Adam Cole to wrestle in late 2023, and Adam Cole was considered for a possible title victory. However, Cole’s injury set off a chain of events that are still felt today.”
MJF returned at AEW Double or Nothing and effectively ended his feud with Adam Cole right there and then. We will have to wait and see what will become of Adam Cole in the end, as it will still be a while until his return.
