Despite already holding a record-breaking Intercontinental Championship reign, GUNTHER secured another milestone by winning the King of The Ring title today. However, his victory in the tournament was shrouded in controversy. Recent updates provide additional clarification on the circumstances surrounding his win.
During the King and Queen of The Ring Premium Live Event, GUNTHER took on Randy Orton in the finals of the King of The Ring tournament. The match delivered on its promise of intensity, with both competitors enduring significant punishment. In the climax, GUNTHER managed to beat Orton, marking a significant milestone in his WWE career by becoming the new King of the Ring.
Yet, GUNTHER’s triumph was met with controversy. Astute members of the WWE Universe pointed out a significant error made by the referee: Randy Orton’s shoulder wasn’t completely on the mat during the pinfall, casting doubt on the legitimacy of GUNTHER’s victory.
According to a report by Fightful Select, it was reported that the aforementioned spot with Randy Orton having his shoulder above the mat was not a planned spot whatsoever.
”In case anyone was wondering, we’ve confirmed within WWE that the spot on King of the Ring with Randy Orton’s shoulder being up was not intentional.”
Triple H has already addressed the controversy surrounding the match’s ending and confirmed that they would eventually have a match in the future once Randy Orton has healed up. Regardless, we’ll have to see when the rematch will take place somewhere down the line.
