Jimmy Wang Yang was one of the highlights of the mid-card scene as he made a name for himself in WWE as a wrestler during the Ruthless Aggression era. That’s why he has many interesting stories to tell and this includes Triple H making a bizarre pitch to Vince McMahon.
While speaking to Steve Fall of Ringside News, Jimmy Wang Yang shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes story about the origin of the “Flying Elvis” gimmick. According to Yang, the concept was actually the brainchild of Triple H.
“The Flying Elvis came about, you know, that gimmick is actually Triple H’s idea. He wanted Flying Elvises, yeah.”
Yang went on to recount how the idea was pitched to Vince McMahon. He explained that Triple H, Vince Russo, and Shawn Michaels were the masterminds behind the proposal. They presented this elaborate concept to Vince, who took a moment to consider it.
“Hunter told me the story about the Flying Elvises. He said, ‘Me, Russo, and Michaels went to Vince to pitch this idea about having Flying Elvises of different races.’
The reaction from Vince McMahon was memorable, as Yang revealed that Vince McMahon directly asked Triple H, Vince Russo, and Shawn Michaels what kind of drugs they were on.
“Vince, I guess, thought about it and then looked at them like, ‘What kind of drugs are you guys on?'” Yang recounted with a laugh. “I was like, ‘No way.’ And that’s how that idea came about.”
Jimmy Wang Yang was done with his role as a producer in WWE and left the company back in 2021. Nevertheless, such stories will always manage to amuse people and that’s all that matters.
