MJF’s extended absence from AEW television had wrestling fans speculating about his future, especially since his last appearance was at AEW Worlds End last year. However, fans were in for a surprise when MJF made his shocking return at Double or Nothing. It seems AEW went to great lengths to ensure that his return remained a closely guarded secret.

Before MJF’s entrance at Double or Nothing, Adam Cole appeared immediately following the intense match between Will Ospreay and Roderick Strong. He took the microphone to address his recovery and brought back his iconic Devil Mask, a symbol of his past persona. Just as he was about to lead the crowd in his trademark ‘Adam Cole Bay Bay’ chant, the arena was engulfed in darkness, and a video began to play, revealing a corridor leading to a room filled with relics of a long-absent AEW star.

To the shock of everyone in attendance, MJF made his long-awaited return. As he entered the ring, there was a glimmer of hope for reconciliation with Cole, only for MJF to deliver a brutal low blow, sending Cole crashing to the mat in agony.

As Cole was assisted from the ring, MJF seized the moment to assert his dominance. He vehemently denounced Cole’s Devil Mask, hurling it into the crowd, and reaffirmed his unwavering allegiance to AEW. MJF proclaimed that Cole’s actions woke him up, pledging to invest in himself and remain loyal to the company in his quest to reclaim his spot at the top of the roster.

Fightful Select reports that MJF’s appearance at AEW Double or Nothing was kept under wraps by the company, although many roster members anticipated his return at the event. The plan was for MJF to fly into Phoenix instead of Las Vegas, then be driven to Las Vegas, where keeping surprises secret became challenging. Despite efforts, MJF was spotted by a fan on the plane, leading to precautions such as being brought into the arena and backstage area in a wheelchair, covered up to prevent anyone from seeing him.

We have also reported how MJF’s return at AEW Double or Nothing was planned. Regardless, we will have to wait and see how MJF will be booked now that he is back on AEW television.
