Swerve Strickland’s rise in AEW has been remarkable, showcasing his exceptional in-ring skills and undeniable charisma. As the current AEW World Champion, he stands at the pinnacle of the company, although not everyone is satisfied with his booking.
Last month at AEW Dynasty, Swerve Strickland reached a significant milestone by becoming the world champion, dethroning Samoa Joe. Leading up to this moment, he had been gaining tremendous momentum for several months, arguably becoming one of the most beloved stars in the promotion.
However, questions have since been raised about the management of his reign, particularly the quality of his opponents. Addressing his critics in an interview with Adrian Hernandez, the former WWE talent used a compelling analogy to describe his approach to being a champion.
“I want you to want more now and then get fed as the nine-course meal. You get more as it goes. Rather than you just get the steak at the beginning and then, ahh, I’m too full, this is too much. Now you want a salad. Now you’re wanting bread as that goes on, that’s how things go. Like I always say, compare television. Television people think works like the rate of a faucet. And it doesn’t; it works like an IV drip. It’s more of the pacing. Eventually, you will get your full glass, but it’s not instant. “
Swerve Strickland also defended his title against Christian Cage at AEW Double or Nothing. We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for the current AEW World Champion next.
