Mercedes Mone’s arrival in AEW has undoubtedly reshaped the landscape of the promotion. As a prominent figure in the history of the Jacksonville-based organization, Mone quickly rose to prominence within the company. Now, she has finally addressed the delay in her AEW in-ring debut.

At AEW Double or Nothing, Mercedes Mone made her long-awaited in-ring debut, emerging victorious by defeating Willow Nightingale to capture the TBS Championship. Although Mone signed with AEW back in March, her debut was delayed until the pay-per-view on May 27. This delay was due to her recovery from an ankle injury sustained at NJPW Resurgence in May 2023, which sidelined her for several months.

During the AEW Double or Nothing post-show media scrum, Corey Lee of the Wrestling Observer asked Mercedes Mone about the delay in her in-ring debut, considering her previous statements indicating she was cleared in December 2023. He questioned whether this was always the plan for her comeback with AEW. Mone made it clear she was fine waiting longer to make her AEW in-ring debut.

“Me and Tony have been talking for a very long time. People don’t even actually know when I got signed to AEW. The beginning of the year, we talked, signed a deal, made it happen. We were really talking about when was the perfect place and time for me to debut in the ring? We knew March 13th was going to be amazing and the Boston Garden. When Tony called me and said, ‘I have the perfect place for you to debut. Boston, baby.’ ‘Tony, Tony, you are speaking my language. You are speaking the Mone.’ Then he said, ‘We are celebrating AEW’s five-year anniversary here in Las Vegas for Double or Nothing. Can you wait?’ I said, ‘B****, I’ve been waiting for a whole year. Of course, I can wait. I’m patient.’ This is the perfect place. The grandest place that I can make my in-ring debut. As you can see, Mone changes everything.”
