It was an exciting weekend in the world of professional wrestling, as two of the biggest giants in the business, WWE and AEW produced their own enthralling Premium Live Events that captivated the audience like no other.

WWE took over the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the spectacular, WWE King and Queen of the Ring PLE. On the other hand, AEW produced the 5th edition of its inaugural pay-per-view in Las Vegas, AEW Double or Nothing.

While both events did impressive business, the startup wrestling promotion, AEW surprisingly toppled the global juggernaut in online searches. According to the Wrestling Observer, AEW Double or Nothing ranked as the 11th most searched topic on Google yesterday, garnering 20,000 searches. While this number isn’t particularly high, it is notable.

In contrast, the WWE King & Queen of the Ring event failed to make it into the top 20 searches on its day, attracting fewer than 20,000 searches. Historically, WWE shows have rarely fallen below 200,000 searches, with Backlash considered low at 100,000 searches. This marks a significant decline in search interest for WWE events.

“Double or Nothing was No. 11 in the most searched topics yesterday on Google. That only meant 20,000 searches which is not a big number. However, WWE King & Queen of the Ring as noted yesterday was the first WWE PPV show in history not to crack the top 20 on its day, meaning less than 20,000 searches. WWE shows previously rarely did under 200,000 and Backlash was considered low at 100,000.”

While AEW outlasted their direct competitor in online searches this time, we will have to wait and see if they can continue the momentum with their forthcoming spectacles.
