Mercedes Moné signing with AEW and making her debut at AEW Big Business has significantly impacted the promotion and The CEO herself has quickly risen to stardom within the company ready to step back inside the squared circle after a long time.
The former Sasha Banks’ upcoming match at AEW Double or Nothing against Willow Nightingale is highly significant for both her and the promotion. Although she has been out of action since May 21, 2023, due to an ankle injury sustained against Nightingale at NJPW Resurgence, her debut at AEW Dynamite Big Business in March generated considerable excitement.
According to Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Mercedes Moné was medically cleared to return in December last year. However, in a new update by Fightful Select, AEW sources were surprised by this report, and NJPW sources indicated they would have booked her for Wrestle Kingdom and Battle in The Valley if she had been able to wrestle in January. AEW sources confirmed that Moné’s return was delayed until May due to the severity of her injury.
“Regarding the New York Post story saying that Mercedes Mone was cleared in December 2023, AEW sources reached out to say that if that was the case, it was a major surprise to them. NJPW sources said that if she was able to wrestle in January they would have tried to book her for Wrestle Kingdom and Battle in The Valley. AEW sources we spoke to said that it was pretty clear that Mercedes wasn’t going to be wrestling until May, and that was due to the injury.”
Furthermore, fans eagerly await Mercedes Moné’s match for the TBS Championship against her formidable rival, Willow Nightingale at AEW Double or Nothing, anticipating whether she can secure a victory in her AEW in-ring debut and prove that she still has the in-ring prowess that made her a household name in the wrestling business.
