After an unsuccessful shot at the FTW Championship at AEW Dynasty, Hook was a part of a trios qualifying match with the winner getting a shot at the title. The final match to determine the No.1 contender ended up in a controversy when Hook and Katsuyori Shibata, both won the match, which eventually ended up confirming a three-way match for the title.

Chris Jericho put his FTW Championship on the line against both Hook and Katsuyori Shibata in a three-way FTW Rules match at AEW Double or Nothing. Having no champion’s advantage, Jericho had a mighty task ahead of him at the pay-per-view.

Tables, kendo sticks, dice, and every other weapon under the ring was used under FTW Rules. Big Bill came out to help Jericho but was taken out by Hook very early. The ending moments of the match featured Bryan Keith coming out to help the champion retain his title after unleashing an attack on both Hook and Shibata.
