Ricochet is viewed as one of the best in-ring competitors in WWE and he is the current WWE Speed Champion. However, Will Ospreay isn’t a fan of how Ricochet has been booked and slammed WWE for the same.
Before becoming major stars in the top professional wrestling companies, Will Ospreay and Ricochet shared the ring several times, delivering mind blowing bouts that propelled both men into the spotlight.
Their star-making matches in NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament in 2016 and 2017 took their careers in different directions. Ricochet signed with WWE, while Ospreay became a big deal in New Japan Pro Wrestling before joining All Elite Wrestling.
In an interview with Liam Crowley of ComicBook.com, Will Ospreay reflected on his history with Ricochet, expressing some sadness over how people are forgetting Ricochet’s past contributions.
“I keep up with him all the time and sometimes I get a little bit sad about it. I hope he’s not sad and I hope he’s real happy.
“I keep up with him as much as I can, but I feel like people are forgetting who Ricochet was once upon a time.
“All of these high-flyers that you see, and myself included, we all took inspiration from Pac and Ricochet.”
The Aerial Assassin also voiced his disappointment with WWE’s use of Ricochet and slammed the company for the same, as he stated that he found it appalling just how badly WWE has used Ricochet.
“The fact that they only value his time for under five minutes is appalling to me. I just want people to remember who he is. If you go and look at 2012-2013 Dragon Gate Ricochet, he was untouchable at the time. When it came to this generation of high-flyers, he was the greatest. He’s the greatest high-flyer ever. I know it sounds weird, but I do put him on the same level as Rey Mysterio.”
The Speed Championship is all about fast-paced matches, with Ricochet expected to defend the title in brief three-minute bouts. There are likely many fans who will agree with what Will Ospreay had to say. Regardless, Ricochet is content with his current position in WWE and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
