WWE has not missed an opportunity when it comes to collaborating with some big stars from other sports. With a number of sports icons making appearances for the company in the past, a lot of other names have also shown interest in featuring on WWE TV. While some have just made an appearance from the crowd, stars like Rob Gronkowski have also won a title in the company.
In a recent interview on Something to Wrestle, Bruce Prichard revealed that back in 1991, WWE tried to get NFL star Bo Jackson to make an appearance on TV. Their motive was to bring the massive star for an appearance at WrestleMania VII which Jackson showed interest for initially.
However, the star eventually declined after getting concerned about the impact it could have on his football and baseball career. Prichard stated that Jackson assumed things to be easy but it eventually turned around when he came to know that a lot of training was required.
“We were talking about Bo being a three-athlete star if he wanted to come in. But Bo was concerned as far as how that would jeopardize his football and baseball career. Any little thing, yeah, he just wasn’t interested. He was interested. But he thought, ‘Oh, wrestling’s fake. Yeah, I can do that.’ Then when he found out, no, man. You gotta be a hybrid athlete to do it. And Bo was a great athlete. I just don’t think Bo had any desire to learn how to take a bump or do any of the things required to get into the ring.”
Prichard’s recent statement made it clear that the notion around is that performing in the squared circle is easy. However, the hard work and skills required to make it to that level and perform every week is something very few know about. Stay connected to Ringside News to get the latest updates on WWE.
