The Elite comprising Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, Jack Perry and Kazuchika Okada shocked the world by laying down a heinous assault on AEW President Tony Khan a few weeks ago on AEW Dynamite.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, Matthew Jackson opened up about a controversial moment in AEW that garnered significant attention. One-half of the AEW World Tag Team Champion described the incident as “dangerous and rebellious,” acknowledging that it broke the rules initially set by the company. The incident, which surprised the entire locker room, also received an overwhelming amount of feedback.
Matthew Jackson also admitted that the moment was personally satisfying for him, as he had fantasized about dropping Tony Khan on his head ever since meeting him and revealed that during production meetings, his mind would wander to scenarios where he would physically confront the AEW President and CEO.
“It felt dangerous and rebellious, and it broke our own rules that we set in the beginning, and it was big. I was told it was a complete curtain sell-out, and the locker room gasped when it went down. Afterward, my phone lit up like a Christmas tree. It was probably the most feedback I’ve ever received for anything I’ve ever done, so I know it worked. It was personally great for me, because I had fantasized many times about dropping Tony Khan on his head ever since I met him. I can remember many times watching him talk during production meetings, and my mind would wander to beating the hell out of him, so you can imagine how great it felt to give Tony Khan a Tony Khan Driver.”
However, Tony Khan made his surprising appearance on that fateful night on the May 22 edition of AEW Dynamite. Khan was spotted driving Darby Allin to the arena, who was barred from the premises by The Young Bucks. Allin would then appear on the stage to fend off an attack by The Elite by igniting a flamethrower in his hand.
Furthermore, with Tony Khan back in the fold, it will be interesting to see if he makes his presence felt as his Team AEW battles The Elite in an Anarchy in an Arena match at this weekend’s AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view to possibly avenge Matthew Jackson’s fantasy that came to life.
