WWE WrestleMania 40 on Sunday witnessed a monumental moment as Cody Rhodes dethroned Roman Reigns to become the Undisputed WWE Champion, cementing his status as one of the top stars in the company. Following this historic victory, Rhodes has revealed a major goal he aims to achieve in WWE before retiring.
Cody Rhodes met his new challenger for the Undisputed WWE Championship, Logan Paul in the ring last week for contract signing on SmackDown. Paul would reveal that only the Undisputed WWE Championship would be on the line in Saudi Arabia, as he had never agreed to defend his title.
Rhodes made an appearance on Busted Open Radio, where he revealed his surprise at Paul’s move to have his lawyer issue a new deal ahead of their match. However, he affirmed his readiness to defend his championship and expressed his desire to become a WWE Grand Slam Champion before retiring.
”Normally, I think anybody would be frustrated because we’re all chasing titles. We’re all chasing accolades, but this is the top of the pyramid for WWE. Just objectively, this is what sits at the top, and everything else is beneath it.
Logan not taking his title out of the equation did not make me near as mad as it would have had this not been the prize on the line and again, the Grand Slam Championship eludes me, but I got time left on the contract. I can seek it out as I go.”
We will have to wait and see how Cody Rhodes will fare against The Maverick at the King and Queen of The Ring Premium Live Event on May 25th, as he certainly has the upper hand at the moment. Perhaps he’ll eventually become a Grand Slam Champion as well one day since he still needs the WWE United States Championship to fulfil his goal.
