Konnan Doubles Down on Accusation of Tony Khan Prohibiting AEW Stars from Watching WWE Royal Rumble

Recently, wrestling veteran Konnan claimed that Khan banned AEW talent from watching the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble, a statement that has stirred controversy and debate within the wrestling community.

Konnan, who has extensive experience in the wrestling industry, initially shared his claim on the “Keeping It 100” podcast. He asserted that Tony Khan issued an edict forbidding AEW talent from watching the Royal Rumble, specifically when Cody Rhodes returned and won the match.

“But bro, he had given out that day the order that if he found out anybody was watching Cody at the Royal Rumble when he returned and won, he [Tony Khan] basically gave an edict: ‘I better not find anybody watching that show.’”

Konnan’s comments quickly sparked a flurry of responses online, with many criticizing him for his assertion about Tony Khan. Despite the backlash, Konnan doubled down on his claim in multiple tweets, standing firmly by his statement.

“Please don’t speak on my behalf, CMLL has nothing to do with something that I witnessed. He was super mad that day, he was super mad over the Dragon Lee, Dralistico v FTW match….listen to the whole thing… Wasn’t a joke but I was told by somebody that works very closely with him that day he didn’t want to catch anyone watching the show or there would be heat.”

While Konnan’s comments have generated significant discussion, it’s worth noting that opinions on Tony Khan’s leadership remain divided. Some, like Billy Gunn, have defended Khan against his critics.
