Gable Steveson joined WWE a few years ago and had been training through dark matches and faced uncertainty about his status on WWE television. He was released by WWE earlier this month, and now WWE’s internal reaction to his release has been revealed.
Gable Steveson’s release from WWE was a long time coming for many fans, given his difficulty in connecting with audiences despite his earlier expression of satisfaction with his role just a month ago.
Following his WWE release, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Gable Steveson’s departure was primarily due to his inability to meet the expectations set by his lucrative contract.
“His contract was a very big money contract and he wasn’t cutting it.”
Fightful Select now reports that Gable Steveson’s release didn’t surprise several individuals within NXT. One talent highlighted the difference in development between Steveson and his brother Damon Kemp, noting that Steveson’s lack of progression, rather than his previous legal troubles, was the primary factor in his WWE release.
”Gable Steveson’s release didn’t surprise several of those within NXT we spoke to, with one talent pointing to the difference in development from Steveson’s brother Damon Kemp and the Olympian. Those that we spoke to were of the belief it was a lack of progression and not his previous trouble with the law that factored into his WWE release.”
We have also reported that NFL teams had expressed interest in signing Gable Steveson and this just might be his next destination now that he is gone from WWE. Regardless, Steveson’s not part of WWE anymore and that’s the bottom line.
