The WWE King and Queen of the Ring tournament was a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs as it began two weeks ago. While some superstars took advantage of the golden opportunity, others’ luck did not favor them and pushed them to the sidelines.

Ever since the prestigious tournaments began, many superstars slated to compete were pulled from the competition due to injuries. Drew McIntyre was the first to be pulled out due to an ongoing elbow injury. This was followed by Asuka being replaced by Dakota Kai from Damage CTRL due to an injury sustained before her match against Lyra Valkyria.

Next on the list was Bobby Lashley, who was removed from the men’s side on SmackDown and replaced by Angelo Dawkins in his match against Tama Tonga. Zelina Vega was the last star to be announced injured which derailed her chance to once again win the tournament.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE knew well in advance about the injuries of Bobby Lashley and Zelina Vega. In the case of Zelina Vega, the personnel involved in the match knew about Shayna Baszler getting a new opponent almost a week prior to WWE replacing La Muneca.

“Lashley’s injury that kept him out of King of the Ring was known well in advance. Vega’s was known well in advance because those involved with the Baszler match knew she was getting a new opponent early last week if not earlier.”

The tournament will witness multiple quarterfinal matches on tonight’s edition of SmackDown, followed by the semi-final bouts between Jey Uso and Gunther on the Men’s side, while Lyra Valkyria will take on IYO Sky on the women’s side. The winners of the semi-finals from both RAW and SmackDown will square off for their respective crowns at WWE King and Queen of the Ring PLE in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 25.
