The wrestling world was taken aback by Scott D’Amore’s sudden exit from his position as TNA President. As a pivotal figure in the promotion, his departure left a significant void. Interestingly, it seems that a former TNA star played a crucial role in persuading numerous talents to stay with the company following D’Amore’s dismissal.
Anthem Sports & Entertainment Inc. caused ripples in the wrestling community by appointing Anthony Cicione as the new President of TNA Wrestling, displacing the long-standing President Scott D’Amore. D’Amore’s exit marked the end of an era where he had been instrumental in guiding TNA through various transitions and hurdles.
In a recent interview with Irish Wrestling & Entertainment, former TNA star Alex Shelley opened up about the emotional impact of Scott D’Amore’s departure, describing it as a tough pill to swallow for many.
“It was very sad,” Shelley said. “Again, the sense of loss was quite strong. The other thing that I had experience in, but now many other people did, there were a handful of us who we’ve been through these situations where the booker has changed, and it’s scary if you’ve not been through it because you don’t know if your livelihood is going to get taken from you.”
As an experienced figure within the industry, Alex Shelley revealed that he took on the role of reassuring his fellow wrestlers and persuading them to remain with the company.
“I think I had to talk a lot of people off a ledge. I was happy to do that because that’s what you do for your brothers and sisters. That’s what you do when you’re part of a team, and I think everybody’s done really well.”
As for Scott D’Amore, he is currently taking further steps for his next pro wrestling venture following his TNA firing. Only time will tell whether TNA will falter without D’Amore, as that ship has truly sailed now.
