Kenny Omega had been sidelined due to diverticulitis for several months but finally returned on AEW Dynamite last week and was written off after the show. He is set to undergo surgery soon and now Omega made it clear he wants to change his entire gimmick upon his return.
The Best Bout Machine also appeared on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite and confirmed a huge Anarchy In The Arena match for AEW Double or Nothing. In case you forgot, Omega recently stated that he will be undergoing surgery for diveticulitis.
Speaking on his Twitch stream, Kenny Omega expressed the possibility of returning to action at the same level he was before his AEW World Title run, adding that he would be as good as he was during the early days of AEW. Reflecting on this phase, which coincided with the onset of diverticulitis, he sees an opportunity for reinvention and rebranding.
In envisioning his comeback, Omega aims to present a different gimmick, distinct from his prime but still evolved from his previous personas. He wants to introduce something novel and innovative to the business, tired of the repetitive nature of the industry. In his ideal scenario, he returns not as the same old Kenny Omega, but as a better character in every single way.
”I might be able to come back before my title run. We’re talking early days AEW level of Kenny Omega, where a little beat up past injuries. I do believe diverticulitis started during the early days of AEW. Consider a new Kenny Omega, will need repackaging and just sort of presenting something different, rebranding if you will, before I’m back. In a perfect world, I’d like to come back better than I was before but not like in my prime. I just want to bring something new to the table, it’s a lot of same-same and it makes me f**** sick, watching the same s*** all the time.”
We will have to wait and see when Kenny Omega will make his return to the squared circle, as he might be out of action for a very long time after surgery. Regardless, we wish for his best.
