The prestigious King of the Ring tournament kicked off this week on Monday Night RAW with top WWE superstars going head-to-head in qualifying matches. While RAW saw some main event caliber stars emerge victorious, the festivities began for the Men’s locker room of SmackDown as well tonight.

On tonight’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, the first King of the Ring first-round match saw two call-ups from NXT, Carmelo Hayes and Baron Corbin square off. A spectacular bout between the two talents ended with Hayes reversing an End of Days attempt into a roll-up to snatch the win and move further in the tournament.

The second match saw the dangerous Tama Tonga, with his Bloodline members in support, Solo Sikoa and Tanga Loa vanquish Street Profits member Angelo Dawkins from the competition and earn his first singles victory to proceed in the King of the Ring Tournament.

The main event bout of the night saw old rivals, Randy Orton and AJ Styles square off in the final first-round match of the night. An instant classic display that had the fans on their feet for the entire duration saw The Viper triumph over The Phenomenal One with an RKO outta nowhere to pick up the win and advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
