WWE is gearing up for the King and Queen of The Ring premium live event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 25. Recently, matches that were scheduled for Monday Night RAW were unexpectedly removed from the broadcast and shifted to live events instead, and now WWE’s plans for the matches have been revealed.
As seen during this week’s Monday Night RAW, Gunther secured his spot in the second round of the King of the Ring tournament, where he will face the winner of the upcoming Rey Mysterio vs. Kofi Kingston match. On top of that, Ilja Dragunov and Jey Uso each won their first-round matches. On the women’s side, Lyra Valkyria, Zoey Stark and Iyo Sky won their own matches.
WWE made an unexpected decision by relocating the King of the Ring match between Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio, along with the Queen of the Ring match between Shayna Baszler and Zelina Vega, from Monday Night RAW to live events this week. This abrupt change surprised many fans and led to some frustration since many fans felt this was basically false advertising.
Fightful Select reports that the current plan is to air highlights on the May 13 episode of Raw and across social media. However, the report mentions that this plan is subject to change, depending on circumstances.
WWE also moved off those matches due to time constraints. Some of the WWE talent whose matches got shifted to live events were made aware of this fact at the very last minute as well. We’ll have to wait and see who will emerge victorious in the King and Queen of The Ring tournaments, which could definitely give a big boost to their careers.
