The wrestling community was shocked by the abrupt departure of Scott D’Amore from the role of TNA President. He was such an important figure in the promotion and it appears D’Amore is already looking forward to his next pro wrestling venture and solidifying his steps in that regard.
Anthem Sports & Entertainment Inc. created tension in the wrestling community by naming Anthony Cicione as the new President of TNA Wrestling, displacing the long-serving President Scott D’Amore. D’Amore’s departure signaled the conclusion of an era during which he played a crucial role in steering TNA through numerous changes and challenges.
As previously reported, a trademark for “Maple Leaf Wrestling” was recently filed, and the address listed for the filing matches the corporate address of Scott D’Amore’s Border City Wrestling promotion.
According to PWInsider, on May 6, Maple Leaf Wrestling filed a trademark for the name “Grand Prix Wrestling.” The trademark covers goods and services in the realm of professional wrestling, including live wrestling contests, televised appearances by professional wrestlers, wrestling news, and online interviews featuring wrestling personalities.
The name “Grand Prix Wrestling” holds historical significance in Canadian wrestling, as it was the name of the long-running promotion operated by the late Emile Duprée for several decades.
Scott D’Amore’s TNA firing was also in the works long before it was officially announced. Only time will tell whether he will make his pro wrestling return this year, as it’s getting more likely now.
